Family and Systemic Psychotherapy

Families play a central role in most people’s lives. Many of our personality traits and life choices are strongly influenced by our up bringing.

Family therapy does not set out to ‘cure’ people. Instead it aims to  guide and support family members to discuss their thoughts and emotions in a safe place in order to gain an understanding of each other’s experiences. In exploring family dynamics we gain a better understanding of how each member of the family relates to one another and how the family system operates. Family therapy aims to promote change and change can be unsettling. Sometimes families become stuck  or find it difficult to change because problems are familiar. Sometimes we become married to our problems because we fear the unknown. Change means taking risks.

Family therapy can help a family going through a difficult period, or major life transition or mental/behavioural health problems in a family member.

Systemic family therapy emphasises the impact of the wider system and social context on peoples’ lives such as community, society and the culture the family belongs to.

Couples Therapy

Sometimes relationships can become stressful and cause distress. Couple therapy offers a different space to discuss the difficulties and develop strategies to improve communication and relieve the tensions. It can help couples going through a difficult period, or a major transition.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy aims at identifying problematic patterns of relating and explore in depth their origin and dynamic. Exploring your current and past relationships allows for increased perspective and change.
